Mar 30, 2022 | Notícias

Tooth decay or cavity is the destruction of tooth structure and can affect both the enamel (the thin outer covering of the tooth) and the dentin layer of the tooth. It is estimated this oral disease affects nearly 90% da population. Poor oral hygiene and an unbalanced diet are the main reasons that lead to the appearance of Tooth decay.

When a tooth decay appears, over time, it will increase our sensitivity and cause bad breath. Pain and discomfort are also common.
What precautions should I take to prevent cavities?
Brush your teeth 3x a day using a fluoride toothpaste, an element that strengthens teeth and helps prevent tooth decay;

Clean between your teeth daily with dental floss. It is very important to remove plaque between the teeth and under the gum, which is hard to remove with a toothbrush;

 Choose a healthy diet by avoiding sugary foods and drinks;

 Visit your dentist regularly, preferably every six months.

 Swap your toothbrush whenever it wears out or every three to four months.
How to tell if you have a cavity?
The detection of caries at an early stage, as a rule, can only be performed by dentists. However, there are some signs that can be signs of a cavity:
Discoloration – If you see any discoloration on your teeth as white, yellow, brown or black spots.
Toothache – The pain is usually severe if the decay is left untreated for a long period of time.
Bad Breath – Bacteria can spread and cause bad breath if the decay is not treated. If you feel that, no matter how much you brush your teeth, bad breath remains, you should visit your dentist to confirm the possibility of a cavity.
Sensitivity – Lingering sensitivity when you eat or drink hot or cold food or beverages.
Hole In Your Tooth – As the decay on the tooth worsens, it will eventually break down and turn into a hole.
